About the artist
Lauren Masci is an artist based in the vibrant city of Brisbane, Australia. She is a Bachelor of Fine Art (Visual Arts) 2021 graduate. Her passion for oil painting is deeply intertwined with her love of baking and all things sweet. Her works aim to recognise baking, specifically in the form as a domestic ‘women’s’ craft, as deserving of artistic merit and cultural value.
Lauren worships desserts. She specialises in painting cakes and pastries, capturing their intricate details and vibrant colours in a way that makes them feel almost tangible.
Through her current Birthday Cakes series, she pays homage to the joyful moments cakes often represent. From birthdays to weddings, desserts have a unique ability bring people together.
Every cake Lauren paints has been meticulously baked, assembled and photographed by herself. This process not only allows her to forever preserve the beauty of the perishable dessert but also the love and care that goes into making it.
